Inter goalkeeper Andre Onana is set to start in Serie A against Salernitana and then in the Champions League against Benfica after Samir Handanovic starts against Juventus in the Coppa Italia this evening.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who report that there will be a bit of rotation in the Nerazzurri goal between the next few matches.

It has been reported that Handanovic is set to start this evening against Juventus in the Coppa Italia semifinal first leg, whilst the overall starting eleven could see a fair bit of rotation with all of Kristjan Asllani, Danilo D’Ambrosio, and Raoul Bellanova potential starters.

The Gazzetta confirms that captain Handanovic is the probable starter in goal, with the Slovenian displacing Onana.

However, it should not be long before the Cameroonian international is back between the sticks, as he should be back as soon as this Friday’s Serie A match against Salernitana.

The 27-year-old former Ajax has been winning plaudits for his performances this season, and has cemented a role for himself as the regular first-choice starter ahead of Handanovic.

However, the captain is set to be trusted in the Coppa Italia once again, as Inter coach Simone Inzaghi is ready to select him to play from the start against the Bianconeri.

Some of the 38-year-old’s recent displays have been the subject of criticism, as it has been suggested that he is no longer at his best, and that he should not be starting matches when Onana is available.

However, Handanovic remains the captain, and Inzaghi will be ready to hand him the starting shirt against Juventus this evening.

Inter are playing for a place in the final of the Coppa Italia, where they will hope to defend their crown from last season, when they beat the Bianconeri in the final.
