Inter were left to rue missed opportunities as they fell to a tenth league loss of the Serie A campaign at home to Fiorentina on Saturday evening.

Misses from Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Denzel Dumfries and an absolute stinker from Romelu Lukaku cost Inter dearly as they were dealt a sucker punch from Giacomo Bonaventura who sealed a 1-0 win for the visitors.

They were quickly back in action on Tuesday evening in a bad tempered Coppa Italia tie in Turin.

A game littered with late controversy saw Inter grab a draw through a late Romelu Lukaku penalty before the big Belgian received his marching orders along with Samir Handanovic and Juan Cuadrado.

Here’s what we learned from rather bleak week for the Nerazzuri.

1) Simone Inzaghi Hanging On By A Thread

Whilst Simone Inzaghi hasn’t been allowed the luxuries of his predecessor, it is safe to say he should be doing a lot better with what he has.

Yes some of Saturday’s result was taken out of his hands due to some dire finishing but he simply isn’t getting the most out of his players.

Poor team selections and bizarre substitutions as well as some very poor body language from some of the players out on the pitch are all synonymous with a manager who is losing his grip.

A rather plucky draw in Turin keeps Inter in Coppa Italia contention but should a defeat to Benfica occur over both legs it is most certainly the end of the road for Inzaghi come the summer if not before.

2) The ‘Missing Sitters’ Epidemic

Romelu Lukaku was guilty of probably one of the worst misses seen across world football this term but he wasn’t the only one who couldn’t finish on Saturday evening.

A clunky display in front of goal from the Nerazzuri is now something that seems to becoming a regular occurrence as the first half of the game seemed very similar to the one against Spezia just over a fortnight ago.

The top four race for Champions League football is incredibly tight and Inter simply cannot afford to be giving up easy chances to kill games off.

Especially when you see the likes of Milan, Lazio, Atalanta and Roma all taking three huge points over the weekend.

3) Joaquin Correa Needs To Be Frozen Out

Joaquin Correa is now beginning to damage his price tag with every bad performance he makes in Inter colours.

Despite being gifted the opportunity of a start by his coach, the famous grill man dropped another shocker and was hauled off not too long after the hour mark.

What has turned out to be a colossal waste of Inter’s limited resources is now starting to wane even further every week which gives Inter little hope of having any suitor for Correa come the summer.

Time to phase him out of the picture come the summer window.

4) Raoul Bellanova Looking Sharper

After producing quite simply one of the worst individual performances by a man in Inter colours in the shocking home defeat to Empoli, Raoul Bellanova showed in his cameo at the weekend that he isn’t all bad.

Many fans of Inter were quick destroy the former Milan player after his nightmare that Monday evening but in his first proper appearance since he looked very sharp.

Attacking with pace and defending with grit, Bellanova made a claim for a spot on a right hand side that currently features an ageing Matteo Darmian who is filling in at centre half mostly at the moment and a very out of sorts Denzel Dumfries.

Worth a start next time out in league action?

5) Vultures Circling Around Inter Milan Job

With Inter’s manager now seemingly on death row, media outlets and various journalists in Italy and across Europe are beginning to speculate who will be in line to replace Inzaghi should he be hooked soon.

With Inter still in the Coppa Italia, thanks to Tuesday’s late draw, and the Champions League, it is unlikely that he will depart immediately but if the next three results don’t go to plan he may find himself being shown the door even before the summer.

Names like Antonio Conte, Mauricio Pochettino, Roberto De Zerbi and the more likely Christian Chivu have all been named as options for Inter in the past couple of days.

Whilst serious budgetary constraints must be taken into consideration, who do you feel is most likely to take the job and who would you want?
