There would be no chance whatsoever of Inter remaining at the San Siro on their own if city rivals AC Milan are to decisively break from the plans to replace the stadium and move to building a new stadium elsewhere.
This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Corriere della Sera, via FCInterNews, who report that it has been made clear that the Nerazzurri will not stay at the San Siro without the Rossoneri.
The future of Inter and AC Milan’s plans to build a new stadium looks to be almost out of sight, as the Rossoneri are prepared to change course.
Milan are ready to build in the La Maura area, although as of yet neither of the two clubs have formally requested that the existing plans be suspended.
Still, it is widely understood that the Rossoneri are aiming the change plans to building in the La Maura area adjacent to the existing stadium, and this leaves Inter considering their options.
In the meantime, Inter have written a letter to the city formally asking for clarification regarding the situation.
According to the Corriere della Sera, the letter which was in fact signed not just by Nerazzurri Corporate CEO Alessandro Antonello but also by AC Milan President Paolo Scaroni, arrived on March 23.
The newspaper detail that the clubs have made clear to the city that they want transparency regarding the situation, considering that as of yet there has been no formal indication that the plans are changing.
There had been a public debate in the fall which the clubs had hoped could finally speed up the process of receiving approval to begin construction.
However, the bureaucratic delays have only continued to mount, with a possible injunction against demolishing the San Siro the latest development which could potentially be the final nail in the coffin in the plans.
In any event, the clubs want clarity on the situation and for it to be made formally clear that the plans are no longer progressing if this is the case.
Moreover, if Milan change their plans to building a new stadium in La Maura or another location, then Inter will also build on their own in a new location.
