Inter defender Alessandro Bastoni could sign a new contract with the Nerazzurri worth around €6 million net per season.

This according to Italian news outlet Calciomercato.com, who report that the 23-year-old’s priority is to extend with his current club despite Manchester City interest, and that he is waiting for the next call from the club to continue negotiations.

Inter want to extend Bastoni’s contract before the end of the current season rather than risking having the player head into the final year of his deal, which currently runs out at the end of June 2024, in a similar manner to how Milan Skriniar has done this season.

Should the Nerazzurri be unable to agree a new contract with the 23-year-old, they could sell him for a fee during the upcoming summer transfer window.

If Bastoni were to be up for sale, Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus would be interested in his signature.

Meanwhile, it could be Man City who are the team with the most serious prospects of signing the former Atalanta and Parma defender during the summer should he not extend his Nerazzurri deal.

However, according to Calciomercato, Bastoni’s one and only priority is to commit his future to the Nerazzurri.

The contract talks with Inter are ongoing, but as of yet there is still more work that needs to be done between the club and the defender’s representatives.

The player’s entourage have reportedly rubbished claims that he is asking for a pay raise wages of to €7 million net per season.

However, what is equally clear is that Bastoni will have to be given a significant increase in wages to reflect his importance to the team if he is to put pen to paper on a new deal.

According to Calciomercato, an increase from the €2.8 million net per season that the defender currently earns to somewhere in the region of €6 million net per season could be what it takes to get an agreement on a new deal over the line.
