Inter coach Simone Inzaghi is starting to think about handing in his resignation as Nerazzurri coach at the end of the season.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInter1908, who report that the 47-year-old could preempt the rumours of his sacking by deciding to instead step down as his frustration with certain aspects of his position grows.

In recent weeks as Inter’s misery has deepened particularly in terms of their form in Serie A, the rumour mill has been in full swing regarding Inzaghi’s future.

However, the suggestions that have emerged have mainly concerned the possibility of the former Lazio coach’s being sacked.

It had been reported that, after the Nerazzurri’s loss to Fiorentina in the league, the coach could be given three matches in which to save his job as Inter coach, culminating in this evening’s Champions League quarterfinal first leg against Benfica.

Moreover, even if the coach were to make it to the end of the season, Inzaghi could need a “miracle” to maintain his position.

The Corriere take a different tack, though, noting that if Inzaghi is to see the writing on the wall, he could decide to simply leave before the club has the chance to be the ones to end the relationship prematurely.

The newspaper note that there have been clearly visible signs of irritation from the coach with the constant criticism he has seen.

The brazen rumours about which coach is being lined up to replace him have hardly pleased Inzaghi as well.

It was even reported that, last month, the former Biancocelesti boss started to feel that club directors like Beppe Marotta have not given him enough protection from the constant criticisms thrown his way with their remarks to the media.

From the Inzaghi’s perspective, while he is aware of his own faults in the team’s recent struggles, he also can only do so much and is hardly the one to blame when the strikers miss glaring opportunities seemingly match after match.

In the context of this building frustration with his working conditions, the Corriere suggests that Inzaghi could simply decide to step down, hopefully “going out with a bang.”

The 47-year-old is aware of the opportunity ahead of he and his players in the Champions League, where there is a realistic path to the final of Europe’s top club competition.

In view of this, Inzaghi could well guide Inter to a match which would in some ways perfectly sum up the best aspects of his work at the club, namely success in cup competition.

Then there is also the fact that the Coppa Italia is still very much in play, a competition which the Nerazzurri already won last season.

According to the Corriere, Inzaghi is starting to think about the idea of a grandstand finish to the season to vindicate his two years of work as Nerazzurri coach, and then heading for the exit door.
