Roberto Samaden is set to join Atalanta next season after he steps down as head of Inter’s youth academy.

This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews, who report that the 56-year-old is set to join the Nerazzurri’s Lombard rivals when his contract expires at the end of June.

It is now all but confirmed that Samaden will step down from his role as head of Inter’s youth academy at the end of the current season.

The likes of Inter President Steven Zhang, CEO Beppe Marotta, and Sporting Director Piero Ausilio had all hoped that they could change Samaden’s mind and convince him to stay on in his role.

However, the 56-year-old has made up his mind and will look to take on a new challenge at the end of the season, ending an association with the Nerazzurri which has stretched back 33 years.

There had been a number of clubs interested in bringing Samaden in now that he has decided to leave Inter when his contract expires at the end of June, whilst the Italian FA had also been reportedly ready to try and appoint the Nerazzurri executive.

However, it looks to be Atalanta who will win the race to appoint Samaden, and he will stay within the Italian top flight.

Meanwhile, as far as the succession plan for Samaden at Inter goes, Tuttosport confirm a report by Italian broadcaster that current Siena Sporting Director Massimo Tarantino will be the man who replaces the 56-year-old as head of the Nerazzurri’s youth academy.

The former midfielder lined up for the likes of Bologna and Napoli during his playing days, and also spent a year with the Nerazzurri.

The 51-year-old has also held roles as Academy Manager for both of Bologna and Roma in the past, whilst he had worked as Technical Director at SPAL.
