Inter are the team in pole position to sign Tigre and Italy striker Mateo Retegui this summer, as the Nerazzurri plot a “revolution” in attack ahead of next season.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInter1908, who report that the 23-year-old Azzurri star could be the key signing in attack for the Nerazzurri, whilst the talks for Roberto Firmino and Marcus Thuram are ongoing.

Retegui’s emergence with the Italian national team off the back of his blazing form for Tigre in Argentina has meant that any number of European clubs are keen on his signature.

Eintracht Frankfurt are reportedly pushing although the player’s preference remains Inter.

Meanwhile, Lazio are also keen, with all of Udinese, Atalanta, AC Milan, Atletico Madrid, West Ham United, Crystal Palace, and Brighton and Hove Albion having also registered an interest.

Gianluca Di Marzio has reported that this surge in interest has led to an increase in the price tag for Retegui, who will now cost no less than €20 million.

In any event, the Gazzetta reports, Retegui is a major target for the Nerazzurri who have been made keenly aware of the need to refresh in attack by the team’s woeful recent attacking form.

In the case of the Azzurri star, Inter are in a very strong position to get a deal done according to the Gazzetta.

The same is not quite true of either Gladbach and France striker Thuram or Liverpool’s Firmino, both of whom will be available on free transfers when their contracts run out at the end of June.

There is competition to sign both of the pair, and Inter will have work to do convincing them to join this summer.

However, with both of Thuram and Firmino the Nerazzurri continue to regard them as major targets and the talks with their representatives are ongoing.
