Inter could still hold talks with Chelsea in the summer to bring back striker Romelu Lukaku when his current loan move finishes.

This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews, who report that whilst it is clear that the 29-year-old will initially return to Chelsea at the end of June, it is hardly a foregone conclusion that the Nerazzurri won’t try to bring him back.

The one thing that is clear regarding Lukaku’s future is that Inter will send him back to Chelsea, at least initially, when his loan spell from the Premier League giants runs out at the end of June.

Inter CEO Beppe Marotta has confirmed as much, although he also confirmed what has been widely reported, that Lukaku wants to stay.

It has been reported for some time that, due to the disappointing season that the Belgian has endured particularly due to long-term injuries, Inter’s decision on whether to try and bring him back for another season will be based around his performances over the rest of the season.

Moreover, it has even been reported that the Nerazzurri have made the decision that they will decline to try and bring the striker back, as they have seen enough from his continued frustrating performances and inability to really cement a place in the starting eleven.

According to Tuttosport, however, nothing can be precluded just yet.

The newspaper notes that Inter have not actually made a final decision not to try and negotiate with Chelsea in July after Lukaku returns to Stamford Bridge.

The match-winning performance that the 29-year-old put in against Empoli yesterday in a 3-0 Serie A win was certainly evidence of what he is still capable of contributing.

Moreover, there is also the fact that Chelsea could well be willing to give in to Inter’s demands in talks given that they will not be keen to have Lukaku’s wages back on their books next season.
