Inter-linked Atalanta defender Merih Demiral is set to leave La Dea during the summer transfer window, as he has fallen out with his coach Gian Piero Gasperini.

This according to Turkish journalist Yagiz Sabuncuoglu, who reports in a tweet that the 25-year-old wants to leave his current club due to the fractured relationship with his coach, and that a departure now looks to be all but inevitable.

Demiral is reported to be among Inter’s major targets in defense this summer.

The former Juventus and Sassuolo player had been persistently linked during the January transfer window, lined up as an immediate like-for-like replacement for Milan Skriniar should the Slovakian have been sold to Paris Saint-Germain.

However, neither Skriniar nor Demiral moved clubs in January, with Sabuncuoglu reporting that Gasperini had a key hand in blocking the Turk’s prospective transfer to Inter.

Despite the fact that both players stayed put in January, Skriniar is expected to leave for PSG on a free transfer in a couple months’ time anyway, whilst the Nerazzurri will be looking to replace him and potentially make other defensive reinforcements.

It has been reported that Demiral remains Inter’s top target to replace Skriniar, whilst Atalanta are reported to have made the asking price clear at €30 million.

If Demiral is to have made up his mind to leave the Gewiss Stadium during the summer, this could be a major boost as Inter look to sign the Turkish international to replace Skriniar.

According to Sabuncuoglu, the relationship between Demiral and Gasperini has broken down to such an extent that it now looks like a move away is all but inevitable.

He reports that “Merih Demiral and Gian Piero Gasperini have had a bust-up!”

“Merih Demiral has conveyed to the Atalanta directors that he definitely wants to leave during the summer transfer window.”

“Gasperini blocked Merih’s transfer to Inter at the last minute.”
