Inter defender Matteo Darmian insisted that the 2-0 win over Roma in Serie A yesterday was deserved and went some way towards making up for dropped points in recent weeks.

He expressed as much in an interview with Inter TV immediately after the win against Roma with the club’s in-house television channel, and as reported by FCInterNews,

The former Manchester United defender felt that the Nerazzurri had shown composure in a difficult encounter and were worthy of the win, whilst arguing that it was a team effort to secure all three points.

“We were good not only as a department but as a collective, not just us in defence. We did well and we take home a very important win,” Darmian said.

“We were calm throughout the match, always concentrating until the last minute. We knew it would not be easy against a strong team, but we brought home an important victory.”

Inter have endured mixed form since the turn of the year but have rediscovered their rhythm, with the victory over Roma coming after a 3-1 win over Lazio and a 6-0 thrashing of Hellas Verona.

“I think it is important, we are in a good moment, winning helps a lot,” Darmian continued.

“Maybe a month ago the results weren’t coming, but we haven’t lost our awareness. Despite the defeats we were creating a lot and we were being condemned by incidents much more than we should have been.

“We have to continue like this because in this final part of the season we are playing for so much” Darmian concluded.

Matteo Darmian – Inter Milan’s Utility Man

The former Parma and Torino man has slotted in at centre-back for Inter recently following an injury to Milan Skriniar, but insisted that he was always ready to play wherever he was required by coach Simone Inzaghi.

“I try to work hard during the week and contribute when I am called upon, whether as a centre-back or a wingback.”

Inter must now turn their attention to a Derby della Madonnina clash against AC Milan in the first leg of the Champions League semi-final on Wednesday.

Matteo Darmian joined the Nerazzurri in the summer of 2020 on an initial loan with an obligation to sign the player outright for a further £1.8 million.

Since making the move the former AC Milan player has featured for Inter Milan 110 times across all competitions scoring eight goals in the process helping the Nerazzurri win four titles at the club, including the Serie A in 2021.
