Inter have a verbal agreement with Lille defender Tiago Djalo, who could replace Milan Skriniar.

This according to Italian news outlet Calciomercato.com, who report that the Nerazzurri’s agreement with the 23-year-old stands despite his knee injury, though the injury layoff could become a complicating factor.

Djalo has been on Inter’s radar for some time as a possible replacement for Skriniar.

The Portuguese international has been reported to be the Nerazzurri’s priority target to replace the Paris Saint-Germain-bound Slovakian.

According to Calciomercato, there has been a verbal agreement between Inter and Djalo and his representatives for some time.

The Nerazzurri have been laying the groundwork for a summer signing.

However, the fact that Djalo picked up a major knee injury in March could be a problem.

The 23-year-old’s season was ended by an injury to his anterior cruciate ligament.

Moreover, as Calciomercato notes, the recovery timeline for the Portuguese could be around six months.

Inter Milan Could Still Sign Tiago Djalo Despite Injury Woes

Calciomercato report that, even with Djalo’s ACL injury, the defender could nevertheless still join Inter.

The Nerazzurri will be monitoring the player’s fitness over the coming months.

The key question could be whether or not the Lille defender is deemed to have made a full and proper recovery.

As things stand, there is a good chance that Djalo will not return to action until after next season has already started.

The six month timeline is likely to see the 23-year-old back in early September.

However, Inter would still consider signing the defender.

The club see Djalo as an ideal replacement for Skriniar.

As such, the Nerazzurri would still consider signing Djalo even in the event that they know he will not be fit until a few matches into next season.

Accordingly, the verbal agreement between Inter and Djalo still stands.
