Inter Milan midfielder Roberto Gagliardini is under fire for his performance in yesterday’s 4-2 Serie A win over Sassuolo.

Today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, name the 29-year-old as the worst Inter player on the pitch.

Former Atalanta midfielder Gagliardini got what is a relatively rare start for him in yesterday evening’s match.

The 29-year-old was part of a rotated midfield trio along with Marcelo Brozovic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

However, Gagliardini struggled to make an impact on the match. Whilst the midfielder made up the numbers in central areas, he was unable to contribute much in either phase of play.

Gagliardini’s passing was no asset to Inter, as he tended to slow down the tempo. Even worse, there was a tendency for Gagliardini to lose the ball.

This, combined with the 29-year-old’s occasionally loose first touch and relative lack of defensive contribution gave Sassuolo trio Maxime Lopez, Davide Frattesi, and Matheus Henrique a lot of the initiative in the midfield battle.

Gagliardini played out the ninety minutes. For the Corriere this was a factor in Inter struggling to contain some flowing Sassuolo possession in midfield.

Decent But Not Spectacular Grades For Most Inter Players

Inter’s match-winner Romelu Lukaku got a 7/10 score from the Corriere. The newspaper concur with SempreInter that the Belgian was the outstanding player on the night as he celebrated his birthday with a brace.

Meanwhile, the Corriere also give coach Simone Inzaghi a 7/10 score for setting up the match. The 47-year-old’s side took three vital points in the race for top four whilst rotating heavily.

However, otherwise it was a lot of 5.5/10 and 6/10 scores for Inter players.

The Nerazzurri got the job done, but didn’t look very impressive in doing so, as few players shone.
