Inter Milan will hold decisive contract extension talks with Stefan de Vrij after the Coppa Italia final later this month.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. The newspaper anticipate that the talks after the final against Fiorentina could be decisive, and that de Vrij looks likely to sign a new deal.

As things stand, de Vrij’s contract with Inter runs out at the end of June 2024.

It has been up in the air whether or not the former Lazio defender will sign a new deal.

Reports suggest that talks between Inter and de Vrij are ongoing. However, more talks will be necessary to hammer out a deal.

According to the Gazzetta, however, the Nerazzurri won’t wait around for too much longer.

The newspaper set the Coppa Italia final against Fiorentina on May 24 as a negotiations when things could reach their conclusion.

Shortly after that match, the Gazzetta report, Inter will meet with de Vrij’s agent Federico Pastorello.

In that meeting, the Nerazzurri and Pastorello will aim to quell the uncertainty once and for all. The Gazzetta reports that the meeting after the clash with Fiorentina has a good chance of being the last one, one way or another.

According to the Gazzetta, it looks likely that de Vrij will sign a new deal.

A key factor is the fact that the Dutchman has already rejected interest, particularly from Villarreal.

Meanwhile, all of Atletico Madrid, Leicester City, and Aston Villa are reportedly interested in signing de Vrij.

As such, it appears that the 31-year-old’s inclination is to stay at Inter rather than seeking a free transfer move away this summer.
