It is still not certain that Inter Milan will extend the contract of their coach Simone Inzaghi past the end of next June.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. They report that even though Inzaghi is set to stay on next season, it’s not a foregone conclusion he’ll do so with a new deal.

It now looks certain that Inzaghi will stay at Inter past the end of this season.

Despite the speculation that had arisen about his future due to spells of bad form this campaign, the 47-year-old has earned his place.

Nerazzurri President Steven Zhang confirmed that Inzaghi will stay on. The President was full of praise for the at-times under fire coach, who has guided the team to the Champions League final.

Moreover, Inzaghi himself said that he wants to stay at Inter for a long time.

Inter Milan Won’t Necessarily Extend Contract Despite Confirming Simone Inzaghi Stays

A factor in any discussion about Inzaghi’s future is the duration of the coach’s contract. The former Lazio boss’s deal is set to run out at the end of June 2024.

Last summer, Inter awarded Inzaghi with a one-year extension. The coach had joined on an initial two-year deal from the Biancocelesti in the summer of 2021.

However, beyond that things are uncertain.

On the one hand, it would not be easy to see Inter going into next campaign with a coach whose deal is one season away from expiring.

This is particularly the case given that CEO Beppe Marotta does not like being in this situation with a coach.

Nevertheless, the Gazzetta reports that at the moment, a new contract for Inzaghi isn’t a certainty.

More negotiations are necessary. It’s not impossible that Inzaghi will head into next season without a new contract in place.
