The Enterprise Value of Inter Milan has jumped by around €300 million in light of their run to the Champions League final.
This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who use the calculations of Football Benchmark which calculates the “Enterprise Value” of top European clubs.
Aside from the obvious sporting significance of reaching the Champions League final, it is also a big financial prize.
For a club in Inter‘s position, dealing with numerous financial issues since the start of the pandemic, this is no small matter.
It has been reported that the Nerazzurri’s summer transfer plans have been altered by this major windfall.
However, the question of sales and signings is not the only important financial matter for a club like Inter. There is also the question of the club’s corporate value.
This is to say the overall value of the club’s assets as well as brand and potential for future earnings.
Naturally, competitive performance can do a lot of increase a club’s earnings and brand value.
This could become important in the event of a sale. The likes of Bahrain-based fund InvestCorp and current Leeds United owner Andrea Radrizzani are linked with an interest in purchasing the Nerazzurri.
Value Of Inter Milan Significantly Increased By Champions League Run
Inter owners Suning have been consistently reported to value the club at over €1 billion.
According to Football Benchmark, the Champions League final gives the owners more reason to value the club highly.
Football Enterprise CEO Andre Sartori explains, “The estimate of the benefits of a cup final on the club’s Enterprise Value can be determined by looking at the surplus of earnings that hadn’t been expected, compared to the path in Europe that had been anticipated at the start of the season.”
The organization notes that Inter have earned a “surplus” of around €80 million from the Champions League knockout rounds.
This comes from two sources of revenue. The first is the over €100 million in prize money taken in so far. This is around double the €50 million brought in from the group stage of the competition alone.
Then, there is the matter of gate receipts. Inter have earned around €30 million from gate receipts from the San Siro in knockout clashes with Porto, Benfica, and AC Milan.
Football Benchmark calculate that this “surplus” can be multiplied by 3-4 times. For the organization, this means that Inter’s value has increased by €270-300 million.
