Inter Milan CEO Beppe Marotta has hit out at the constant bureaucratic delays that have held up new stadium plans for the Nerazzurri and AC Milan.

Speaking to reporters, as reported by Varesenews.it, Marotta admitted it’s “difficult to envision a rosy future” amid constant roadblocks.

Throughout the process of Inter and Milan trying to build a new stadium, delays and obstacles have been a constant theme.

Whilst the two clubs have tried to meet the demands of local bureaucracy, the process has not been a quick one.

For the clubs, who consider a new stadium vital to modernizing their infrastructure and increasing revenues, this has been a big problem.

Reportedly, Milan have lost patience in particular. Reports suggest that the Rossoneri are now inclined to pursue alternate plans that would involve building away from the San Siro, and without Inter.

There is, in any event, little certainty about what the future holds.

Inter CEO Marotta: New Stadium Situation Still Mired In Delays

The reason for the uncertainty around the plans is the state of the bureaucratic process of approving the clubs’ plans.

In the fall, there had been a public debate held. Ticket prices and environmental impact were a major subject of that debate.

The clubs had hoped that that debate would be the decisive bureaucratic hurdle they needed to overcome.

However, Inter and Milan have been disappointed in this respect.

There is still no clear indication if or when the clubs can move forward with plans.

Moreover, opposition to demolishing San Siro remains. A possible referendum against doing so has been described as the “final nail in the coffin” of the clubs’ existing plans.

Marotta opened up about the situation.

“Unfortunately for us there are still objective obstacles which make it difficult to predict a rosy future,” the Nerazzurri CEO admitted.
