The agent of Inter Milan defender Stefan de Vrij has confirmed that contract extension talks with the Nerazzurri are postponed until after the Champions League final.

Speaking to Italian news outlet TuttoMercatoWeb, the 31-year-old’s agent Federico Pastorello updated on the status of contract talks.

As things stand, de Vrij’s contract with Inter is set to run out at the end of next month.

This means that there are only a few more weeks left for Inter and the Dutchman to make a decision.

De Vrij was reportedly close to signing a new two-year deal with the Nerazzurri a couple months ago.

However, as of yet, nothing has been made official. As things stand, former Lazio and Feyenoord defender de Vrij would be free to leave Inter on a free transfer in the summer transfer window.

Should de Vrij decide not to accept an offer from Inter and leave on a free transfer, Villarreal are strongly linked as a destination.

Meanwhile, Premier League giants Manchester United have been linked with the Dutchman, as have two other English teams in the form of Aston Villa and Leicester City.

Agent: No Contract Talks Between Inter & De Vrij Until After UCL Final

The contract talks have been ongoing for some time. However, as of yet, there is no clear end in sight.

According to de Vrij’s agent Pastorello, Inter will have to wait a little longer for a conclusion.

The agent believes that there is a specific benchmark for when the Nerazzurri could wrap up talks.

Pastorello noted that “His contract is about to expire. There are negotiations with Inter ongoing, but since the Champions League final is yet to be played, the players are concentrating on that.”

“The talks are postponed until after the final in Istanbul on June 10,” he added.

De Vrij has made 201 appearances for Inter in all competitions so far. The Dutchman joined from Lazio on a free transfer in the summer of 2018.
