Salernitana will sign young Inter Milan defender Lorenzo Pirola on a permanent basis, paying the €5 million purchase option in his loan deal.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

Young defender Pirola joined Salerntiana on loan last summer. He made the switch on a one-season loan deal, which runs out at the end of the current month.

However, as part of the loan deal, the Granata have the option to make the 21-year-old’s loan move into a permanent deal.

The Campanian club have been convinced to do so.

Whilst Pirola did not settle in right away, his performances over the second half of the season in particular have convinced Salernitana.

He has made 26 appearances in total for the Granata.

Pirola played an important role in keeping Salernitana in Serie A under Paulo Sosa. The Campanians had looked under real threat of relegation at one point during the campaign.

Salernitana To Pay Inter Milan €5M To Sign Lorenzo Pirola

Inter will lose a promising young defender with Salernitana ready to bring Pirola in permanently. However, the Nerazzurri will pocket a €5 million fee for the deal.

In the meantime, the Nerazzurri are pursuing a young defensive prospect of their own. Reports suggest that Inter are getting closer and closer to completing a deal to sign Germany Under-21 star Yann Aurel Bisseck from Aarhus.

Pirola, meanwhile, will end a nearly decade-long association with Inter.

The defender joined the Nerazzurri’s youth academy in 2015.

Having starred for Inter’s Primavera team and also made one senior appearance under Antonio Conte, Pirola made the step up to regular senior football by spending two seasons on loan with Monza.

Pirola helped the Brianzoli reach promotion to Serie A in the 2021-22 season. However, the Lombard team declined to trigger a purchase option to sign the defender permanently.

Salernitana, however, will do just that.
