Inter Milan wingback Robin Gosens admits that returning to his boyhood club Schalke one day would be a dream for him.
Gosens named the Konigsblauen as his dream Bundesliga club whilst speaking in a press conference with the German national team, as reported by FCInterNews.
28-year-old Inter star Gosens never actually played for Schalke.
The German came through the youth ranks at other clubs, breaking out in the Eredivisie with Vitesse.
Then, it was in Serie A that Gosens really emerged as a top talent. The German found the exact right environment to grow playing under Gian Piero Gasperini at Atalanta.
This earned him a place in the German national team starting eleven at EURO 2020. And, in January of 2022, he got a big move to Inter.
Injuries have meant that Gosens has never made the expected impact at the Nerazzurri to date. The German also lost his place in the national team at the World Cup.
However, there have been one or two signs that Gosens is ready to show his best form in an Inter shirt.
Moreover, he is also once again playing for Germany.
Inter Milan Star Robin Gosens Admits Schalke Would Be A Dream Club
It’s hardly impossible that Gosens could leave Inter this summer.
A move to the Bundesliga looks to be the likeliest outcome if the 28-year-old does leave. Gosens has never actually played in the German top flight professionally, but it would be a return to his homeland.
Union Berlin and Wolfsburg are keen on signing Gosens this summer.
Meanwhile, Bournemouth are all keen to bring the ex-Atalanta man to the Premier League.
However, for his part, Gosens would see one particular German team as a sentimental favourite to one day play for.
The Inter man named Schalke as his personal team. “They’ve always been the club of my city,” he said. “Everyone’s always supported Schalke.”
“If I were to end up playing there, it would close a circle for me,” Gosens added.
Schalke had already made an attempt to sign Gosens in January. The Gelsenkirchen team had wanted to bring the Nerazzurri man in on loan as part of their bid to avoid relegation from the Bundesliga.
They were unsuccessful both in signing Gosens and in staying in the top flight. As such, there would of course be zero chance of the German joining his boyhood club this summer.
However, as far as the future goes, Gosens has made it clear that he would enjoy eventually playing there.
