AC Milan could join Inter Milan and Juventus in the race to sign Sassuolo’s Davide Frattesi if Sandro Tonali joins Newcastle United.

This according to Sky Sport Italia transfer market expert Gianluca Di Marzio, who reports on his homepage that the Rossoneri are thinking of rivalling some of Serie A’s other top clubs to sign the 23-year-old to replace Tonali should they agree a deal with Newcastle.

Today’s bombshell transfer news concerns a potential move for Rossoneri midfielder Tonali to Newcastle.

Reports suggest that the Magpies have made a huge money offer to Milan for the Italian. The move could happen quickly.

If Milan are to lose hold of Tonali, they would certainly want to sign an adequate like-for-like replacement.

And, according to Di Marzio, the Rossoneri are seriously thinking about a move for Frattesi.

AC Milan Join Race For Sassuolo Star Frattesi If Tonali Joins Newcastle

Milan would find that there is a crowded field of teams who want to sign Frattesi, however.

The Rossoneri’s derby rivals Inter are reportedly in pole position to sign the 23-year-old.

However, the Nerazzurri are not the only big Italian team who are eyeing up Frattesi. Juventus and Roma are still keen on getting a deal done for the Neroverdi star, and continuing to push to make it happen.

Now, a real transfer battle could emerge for Frattesi’s signature.

Virtually all of Serie A’s top teams could go head-to-head to seal a deal for the Azzurri star. Even Lazio are reportedly thinking of Frattesi as a possible replacement for Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

What looks clear is that the race to sign Frattesi is far from over.

Milan’s prospective entry could allow Sassuolo to hope for a bidding war to break out among Italy’s elite.

Frattesi made 36 appearances for the Neroverdi last season, scoring a total of eight goals in the process.
