Signing Roberto Pereyra on a free transfer is not currently a priority for Inter Milan as they must sell some players first.

This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews, who report that the Nerazzurri are thinking about the 32-year-old as a target but would only make their move if they offload some midfielders already in the squad.

Inter’s aim is to go into next season with six senior midfielders in the squad.

With three competitions to fight for throughout the campaign, the Nerazzurri could have to play upwards of fifty matches. Obviously, this could put quite a bit of stress on the squad.

Accordingly, having depth in each of the three roles in the midfield trio is a priority for Inter.

With the departures of Marcelo Brozovic and Roberto Gagliardini, and the imminent arrival of Davide Frattesi, Inter can confirm five slots are filled.

Roberto Pereyra An Idea For Inter Milan But Not Yet A Priority

As far as replacements for Gagliardini go, Inter would be very happy to move for Udinese’s Lazar Samardzic.

However, the Nerazzurri aren’t interested in paying more than €15 million for the 21-year-old former RB Leipzig man. This would include add-ons as well as the value of players going the other way.

Accordingly, Samardzic would be a difficult deal for Inter to pull off.

More within Inter’s grasp would be signing former Juventus and Watford midfielder Roberto Pereyra.

The 32-year-old Argentine international is available on a free transfer after his deal with Udinese ran out.

As such, Inter would seriously consider an opportunistic swoop for Pereyra.

However, first the Nerazzurri must get rid of some other midfielders in the squad.

Midfielders Lucien Agoume and Stefano Sensi are both back after loan spells with Troyes and Monza respectively. Inter will have to sort out their respective futures if they’re to move for Pereyra.

The same is true of 20-year-old midfielder Giovanni Fabbian after his loan spell at Reggina.
