Inter Milan and Juventus are ready to rival one another to try and sign Udinese midfielder Lazar Samardzic this summer.

This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews, who report that both the Nerazzurri and the Bianconeri are thinking about stepping up in their respective pursuits of the 21-year-old Serbian international.

For Inter, signing a midfielder to replace Roberto Gagliardini is one of the remaining priorities for the summer transfer window.

The Nerazzurri do not necessarily want to sign a player with the same attributes as the former Atalanta man. Rather, their aim is simply to bring in a sixth senior midfielder to ensure adequate depth over the course of the season.

Samardzic is one name who’s been on the Nerazzurri’s radar in recent weeks.

On the one hand, the former RB Leipzig man was a player Inter identified as an alternative target to Davide Frattesi were they to miss out on the Italian international.

However, Samardzic could still be a target, even after the Nerazzurri already wrapped up Frattesi’s signing.

They aren’t excluding bringing him in as a depth option, and someone who can grow and improve over the coming seasons.

Not Just Inter – Juventus Also Keen On Udinese Star Lazar Samardzic

According to Tuttosport, however, one of Inter’s biggest Serie A rivals are thinking about rivalling them to sign Smardzic.

New Bianconeri Sporting Director Cristiano Giuntoli is a major admirer of the 21-year-old Friulani midfielder. He had also had the player on his radar whilst he was at Napoli.

And Giuntoli has hardly lost his interest in Smardzic. He would like to sign the Serb as a midfielder reinforcement, to inject some youth and freshness into the Bianconeri’s midfield.

Much would depend on who Juventus are able to offload first, however.

A sale of Paul Pogba would certainly be one big step towards making room for a pursuit of Samardzic.

Additionally, deals to sell Denis Zakaria to West Ham United and Arthur to Fiorentina would also help Giuntoli and Juventus greatly in their quest to sign Samardzic ahead of Inter.
