Italian journalist Maurizio Pistocchi feels that Romelu Lukaku would have to forego a chunk of his salary to return to Inter Milan this summer.
Writing in a Twitter post, the journalist gave the view that the 30-year-old would have to make a very public apology and then agree to reduce his wages as a show of faith and contrition to convince the Nerazzurri to bring him back after the way that things have soured between them.
The shock developments of just over a week ago have left Lukaku scrambling to figure out his future.
And for his part, the Belgian is hoping to jump-start talks with Inter again. Despite having also negotiated with Juventus behind the Nerazzurri’s back, he has apologized profusely for that indiscretion.
Reportedly, the player has tried to mend things with the Nerazzurri.
However, the club have reportedly made their stance clear. Inter are still furious about the way the 30-year-old went behind their backs to negotiate with the Bianconeri.
The wounds for the club directors, coaching staff, and players are still fresh. They are currently opposed to reigniting their pursuit of Lukaku.
Moreover, Inter’s ultras group the Curva Nord have also made their feelings very clear on Lukaku. They are angry at what they see as an enormous betrayal by the Belgian.
Pistocchi Suggests Only Way Romelu Lukaku Could Win Back Inter Milan
Pistocchi writes that “In the Lukaku affair, there’s only one winner: Giuntoli, who, as he has always done since his days at Carpi, has managed, with more or less realistic promises – wages, centrality in the team – to break the relationship between the player, Inter, and the fans, weakening a rival.”
He continues that ” Today Lukaku is without a team.”
“Chelsea don’t want him, if Vlahovic doesn’t leave then Juve can’t sign him, and Inter don’t want him back either.”
“But with a big theatrical gesture he could reverse the situation,” Pistocchi suggests.

“Apologize to the fans and the club, and give up 50% of his salary.”
“However, because he’s as venal as anyone, he won’t, and he risks ending up playing in the Saudi Pro league,” he adds.
