Inter Milan and Bayern Munich remain at an impasse in transfer talks for goalkeeper Yann Sommer.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who report that the Bavarians’ continued search for a replacement means that they aren’t yet ready to sell the 34-year-old to the Nerazzurri.

Virtually with each passing day, Inter are growing more impatient regarding their chase of Sommer.

The Nerazzurri have wanted to wrap up a deal for the 34-year-old quickly after selling Andre Onana to Manchester United.

The fact that Inter captain Samir Handanovic has also left the club means that the Nerazzurri are currently without a starting-quality senior goalkeeper in their squad.

Inter have failed in their objective of signing Sommer before their preseason tour of Japan. They are currently in the country, but have not yet signed the Swiss.

Now, with the start of the Serie A season less than three weeks away, there is a new deadline for the Nerazzurri.

And it is a pressing one – there is no question whatsoever that Inter must head into the start of the season having sorted out their goalkeeping position.

Inter & Bayern Still Stalled In Yann Sommer Talks – Bayern Searching For Replacement

However, the Nerazzurri are disappointed at the fact that Bayern aren’t yet open to doing a deal.

Sommer has a €6 million release clause. In theory, Inter could simply trigger this and then sign the player whether or not the German champions want them to.

However, Inter do not want to sour a positive relationship with the Bavarians.

Moreover, if the Nerazzurri do wait until they have the green light from Bayern, the fee will be around €4.5 million.

But everything is held up by Bayern’s search for a replacement for Sommer.

The Germans had been trying to negotiate a deal to sign Brentford keeper David Raya. However, those talks have collapsed.

In the meantime, Sommer is still the only starting-quality keeper at Bayern. Captain Manuel Neuer continues to be out with an injury.

Therefore, the Swiss will likely start in Bayern’s next friendly match against Liverpool.

The sense remains that Inter will be able to agree a deal with Bayern for Sommer whenever the Bavarians sign a replacement.

However, the big open question is when that will be. As long as one does not arrive, the clubs will continue to be at an impasse.
