Inter Milan could move for Roberto Pereyra on a free transfer should their deal for Lazar Samardzic collapse for good.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

Unless Inter can find a way to jump-start negotiations with Samardzic’s representatives, it looks as though the 21-year-old will not be joining the Nerazzurri this summer after all.

This is obviously a headache and a disappointment for Inter on a number of levels.

The Nerazzurri are at serious risk of failing to sign a player even after he had already completed his medical on the deal.

And among the issue that Inter will now have to deal with is who to sign instead of Samardzic.

Roberto Gagliardini is gone and Stefano Sensi not a player who Inter look particularly keen to keep in the squad.

Therefore, the Nerazzurri will likely still have to sign another midfielder in lieu of Samardzic.

And, the Corriere report, the Nerazzurri could return to an idea from earlier in the transfer window.

Inter Could Reignite Pereyra Interest If Samardzic Deal Collapses

Inter have already explored the possibility of signing one of Samardzic’s teammates from last season this summer.

Veteran former Juventus and Watford midfielder Pereyra is available on a free transfer. The 32-year-old Argentine international’s contract with Udinese expired at the end of June.

WIth Pereyra still on the market, he could well present Inter’s directors with a compelling option.

The former Bianconeri man has no shortage of Serie A experience and versatility.

Moreover, and very importantly at this stage of the transfer window, a deal to sign Pereyra wouldn’t likely take that much time to complete.

Not having to deal with another club would give Inter a boost in terms of time on their side.

Therefore, the Corriere report, Pereyra would certainly be one of the possible names for Inter if they walk away from Samardzic talks permanently.
