Inter Milan decided to sign Marko Arnautovic rather than Alexis Sanchez due to his style of play.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello SPort, via FCInterNews.

Inter’s business in attack this summer may well be done.

The Nerazzurri are on the verge of completing a deal to sign former West Ham United and Stoke City striker Arnautovic to be their new striker signing for the upcoming season.

The Austrian veteran wasn’t necessarily the Nerazzurri’s first choice.

There have been flirtations with Arsenal’s Folarin Balogun. Gianluca Scamacca came onto Inter’s radar before Atalanta beat them to the punch.

In recent days Porto striker Mehdi Taremi has emerged as a major target.

Even Bayern Munich’s Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting was a player Inter looked into over the past few days. However, the Bundesliga champions don’t want to sell the striker.

In the end, Inter look to have gone the route of an opportunistic and low-cost veteran to hold down the attack.’

Why Inter Went For Arnautovic Rather Than Alexis Sanchez

According to the Corriere, former Arsenal, Manchester United, and Barcelona forward Alexis Sanchez would have also been a candidate for a surprise return to Inter.

The Chilean is available on a free transfer.

And,m the newspaper reports, there have been some contacts.

Despite the fact that Sanchez only left Inter last summer, he would be a convenient free transfer option.

But according to the Gazzetta, the Nerazzurri opted for Arnautovic because his profile best fit what the team needs.

The Nerazzurri’s squad is currently without an out-an-out Number Nine. That is what Simone Inzaghi.

A player like Sanchez would certainly add technical skill and a dimension of unpredictability. But he cannot match the Austrian in terms of the height, physicality, and battling quality to act as a target man and reference point.
