Contacts between Inter Milan and defender Benjamin Pavard go back as long as eight months.

This according to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews, who report that the Nerazzurri had already started making their interest in the Frenchman clear as much as eight months ago, with the player only now sealing the move.

Inter are on the verge of completing a deal to sign defender Pavard from Bayern Munich.

The Nerazzurri have secured the green light from Bayern after more than a week of talks.

However, Sky reveals, Inter’s interest in signing Pavard goes back much further than that.

The Nerazzurri have long seen Pavard as having the perfect profile to play on the right side of coach Simone Inzaghi’s back three.

Therefore, when it became clear that defender Milan Skriniar would not be extending his contract, Pavard was a natural target for Inter.

Inter Milan Signing Benjamin Pavard After Eight-Month Chase

Inter had already considered signing Pavard during the January transfer window.

After it had become clear that Skriniar would not be extending his contract, the Nerazzurri considered selling the former Sampdoria defender to Paris Saint-Germain during the January transfer window. In that case, they would’ve needed a replacement.

According to Sky, Pavard was Inter’s top target in January for if Skriniar left.

However, the Slovakian stayed at Inter, whilst Pavard remained at Bayern.

However, the interest from the Nerazzurri hardly went away. They knew that they would have to find a replacement for Skriniar in the summer in any event.

Therefore, Inter have been considering Pavard a target for this summer transfer window ever since then.

That doesn’t mean that the Nerazzurri moved for the 27-year-old right away.

Far from it. Inter’s move comes right in the finalk days of the window.

The Nerazzurri have already made ten other signings. And they have also been linked with an array of other defenders.

But Pavard is a player who never fell off Inter’s radar – there has always been an ambition to sign the Frenchman.

And now, they are finally getting their man.
