Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi is focusing his efforts working with Marcus Thuram on sharpening the Frenchman’s goalscoring instincts.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who report that the Nerazzurri coach is devising drills and video sessions that specifically revolve around getting Thuram more at home in the penalty area.

Thuram is now off the mark in Serie A.

The 26-year-old opening the scoring in a 4-0 rout of Fiorentina before the international to open his account in an Inter shirt.

There was a certain sense of palpable relief after Thuram’s goal – a bullet header from a Federico Dimarco cross – went in.

It was not exactly an emergency that Thuram had went his first two Serie A matches pass without a goal.

But the fact that the former Borussia Monchengladbach man also failed to score in preseason did raise some eyebrows.

Thuram’s position at Inter is clearly that of a striker. The Frenchman played up top in his final season for Gladbacgh, where he enjoyed his most prolific goalscoring campaign.

Inter Milan Coach Simone Inzaghi To Work With Marcus Thuram On Goalscoring

Considering Inter signed Thuram to be a goalscorer, the Frenchman’s strike against Fiorentina was an important moment.

But Nerazzurri coach Inzaghi is hardly ready to be complacent.

There are still clear signs that Thuram must improve particularly in the decisive actions right in front of goal.

The Frenchman’s work in the penalty area can be contrasted with that of his strike partner, Inter captain Lautaro Martinez.

The Argentine may not be the quickest player, but has become an expert in timing his attacking runs. This has seen him get his season off to a flying start, finding the back of the net five times in just three matches.

Martinez has shown an uncanny knack to be on the spot to finish the chances that his teammates create.

Now that is what Inzaghi wants to see from Thuram.

So far, the Frenchman has formed a partnership with Martinez that has seen both strikers take turns dropping deeper.

And in terms of contributions in buildup, Thuram already looks every bit as adept as Martinez. The Frenchman’s dribbling ability has enabled Inter to keep possession and get up the pitch rapidly.

Now, Inzaghi wants the 26-year-old to also be at the level of Martinez in front of goal.

Therefore, that will be the primary focus of individual work for Thuram in training.

Inzaghi, a former striker himself, is devising drills and video analysis work that is laser-focused on the penalty area.

The Inter coach senses that Thuram is still not fully comfortable in goalscoring positions. Now, he wants those to be precisely the positions that are like second nature for the Frenchman.
