A strong new attacking partnership between Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram is blossoming at Inter Milan, on and off the pitch.

This is highlighted in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

In seasons past, Inter have had the “Lu-La” partnership between Lautaro Martinez and Romelu Lukaku to call upon.

Not so this season. The soap opera between Lukaku and Inter over the same not only soured the Belgian’s relationship with the Nerazzurri, but also saw his friendship on a personal level with Martinez end.

But things must go on.

This summer, Inter bolstered their attack by signing striker Marcus Thuram on a free transfer from Borussia Monchengladbach.

The Frenchman has come in to partner Martinez. And early signs are that the two men are capable of forming a very formidable strike duo.

“Thu-La” Partnership Between Lautaro & Thuram Growing On & Off The Pitch

Thuram arrived in the summer and then hit the ground running.

The 26-year-old started preseason training with his new teammate, and then was part of the tour of Japan.

According to the Gazzetta, that trip to Japan was crucial to getting Thuram integrated with his new team. And particularly with Martinez.

The two strikers got to know each other both on and off the pitch.

And whilst the new “Thu-La” dynamic was not immediately evident in Japan, it has looked clear and obvious at the start of the Serie A season.

Martinez has been the player who’s benefited most in terms of goals. The 26-year-old has already found the back of the net a whopping five times already.

But Thuram has also bagged a goal and an assist so far in Serie A.

And in truth, the Frenchman could have had more had he been more clinical with some of his chances.

And just as importantly, the broad understanding between the two strikers looks like a real chemistry. Martinez and Thuram look like two players who know each other’s movement already.

When one drops into midfield the other will push the envelope against the opposition backline. And vice-versa.

And according to the Gazzetta, this tactical rapport is also a reflection of a personal one.

Martinez and Thuram have gotten along well in training, and become genuine personal friends, according to the Gazzetta.

The pair have continued to regularly message one another over WhatsApp during the international break.

The two Inter strikers have provided regular updates about their condition and how their break is going. And both have expressed their excitement at getting back to Inter for the derby against AC Milan.
