Milano mayor Giuseppe Sala has officially requested a written clarification from both Inter Milan and AC Milan regarding plans for a new stadium.

The two Serie A giants currently share the iconic San Siro Stadium. However, both clubs agree on the need to build a new modern ground, one that can boost their matchday revenues.

Both clubs have been trying to build a new stadium on the ashes of the San Siro since 2019. This means tearing down the current ground and raising a new one in the same location.

But as SempreInter reported last month, the regional commission for the cultural heritage in Lombardy denied the two clubs’ new stadium project.

The commission considered the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium a venue of cultural and historical significance. Thus, it prevented the two clubs from demolishing it.

This served as a deadly blow to Inter and Milan’s shared stadium project.

Therefore, the two Serie A giants have decided to part ways in their pursuit of a new suitable location. Each club could now build its own stadium in a different region.

The Rossoneri could raise a new ground in the San Donato region. Meanwhile the Nerazzurri are considering building theirs in Rozzano.

The municipality of Milano is still hopeful of resurrecting plans of a new shared ground in the City.

So according to La Repubblica via FcInterNews, Mayor Sala has officially addressed the two clubs, asking them to clarify their stance on the new stadium project.

However, the two clubs have apparently made up their mind. The source expects them to pursue their separate projects at San Donato and Rozzano.

Milan Mayor Seeks Official Clarification From Inter Milan & AC Milan Over New Stadium Plans

At the moment, Inter Milan fans can only wonder how much of an impact would a new modern stadium have on the club.

Aside from the financial profit and increased matchday revenue, the Nerazzurri might have the opportunity to organize various sporting and social events on their ground.

For instance, imagine hosting an NFL contest at the Inter Milan Stadium. This might be a bit of a stretch at the moment, but shouldn’t be totally ruled out given that other footballing venues have already hosted NFL matches.

The most famous example is the iconic Wembley Stadium in London. The next game is between the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Atalanta Falcons, and despite these 2 teams seen as huge outsiders to win the Super Bowl in the NFL odds, the match is expected to be a sellout, which highlights the potential for additional revenue for similar events.

In any case, the Nerazzurri won’t have a new stadium in the near future. A recent report revealed that the inaugural could ensue in the 2028/29 campaign.
