Wingback Carlos Augusto rejected Juventus during the summer in order to make the move from Monza to Inter Milan.

This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews, who report that the 24-year-old’s ideal destination was always the Nerazzurri, despite interest from some other clubs.

There had been a fair bit of transfer interest in Augusto during the summer.

Perhaps this is not surprising considering the impressive first season that he had enjoyed with Monza in Serie A.

Augusto had scored six goals from the Brianzoli and assisted an additional five.

Therefore, it was not just Inter who were keen to sign the wingback from Monza.

Juventus, Fiorentina, Fiorentina, and Atalanta all reportedly showed an interest.

And the Bianconeri in particular could have been formidable rivals for Augusto’s signature. They would certainly have been able to offer him a sporting project at a prestigious club, and at least as much in wages as Inter could have.

But according to Tuttosport, Augusto always had a clear idea of what he wanted.

The Brazilian was keen to make the move to Inter.

Carlos Augusto Rejected Juventus To Join Inter

Inter did make sense as a destination for Augusto on a tactical level.

The Brazilian’s best position appears to be as a wingback in a team that plays with three central defenders.

This is a position that allows Augusto to play a lot in the final third. And it also makes use of his impressive pace, acceleration, and stamina.

And it is exactly in that position which Inter coach Simone Inzaghi has utilized the Brazilian to great effect early on this season.

Augusto has not been first-choice with Federico Dimarco in the team. But nor has he lacked for playing time, with appearances both from the start and the bench.

And Augusto has also earned a call-up to the Brazilian national team during the break.

The Brazilian could have chosen Juventus in the summer. Particularly if the Bianconeri had offloaded Filip Kostic.

But in the end, it looks as though Augusto chose well by going with Inter.
