Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni feels that Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez is one of the best players in the Albiceleste team.

Scaloni spoke in a press conference, as reported by FCInterNews, praising the 26-year-old Nerazzurri striker.

Martinez has remained an important player for Argentina.

The 26-year-old started in the Albiceleste’s most recent match, a win over Paraguay.

It’s not certain that Martinez will start against Peru tomorrow night. However, there is every chance that he could do so.

Martinez came in for some criticism following a poor World Cup in which he failed to score or assist a goal.

This led to some doubts about the Inter striker’s suitability to lead the line for the national team.

Manchester City striker Julian Alvarez displaced Martinez from the lineup in Qatar.

But on the other hand, after that tournament Martinez has once again started featuring regularly for his national side.

There is little doubt that Scaloni still wants to put his trust in the Inter captain.

Moreover, the 26-year-old has shown that he can play alongside Man City striker Alvarez in the same lineup.

Argentina Coach Lionel Scaloni: Lautaro Martinez One Of Our Best Players

There is also the fact that Martinez has been in red hot form at club level.

The Argentine has been Inter’s main man once again at the start of this season. He has scored a remarkable ten goals in just Serie A matches, and nine in all competitions so far.

And for Scaloni’s part, he still considers Martinez vital to the national team as well.

“Lautaro is our second top scorer after Leo [Messi],” the coach noted.

“We’re not worried.”

“Lautaro is one of our best players,” he continued.

“I haven’t even spoken about [the possibility of Alvarez starting over Martinez against Peru] with him,” Scaloni said.

“We’re not worried. I don’t know if he is, but I’m guessing not.”

“The other day he played a spectacular match and there’s not much else to say.”
