Inter Milan Sporting Director Piero Ausilio believes that there are three things in particular that are necessary in his line of work.

Speaking at a Coverciano course for prospective football executives, via FCInterNews, Ausilio gave some advice on how to thrive in his role.

Ausilio has become a real fixture at Inter over the years.

The experienced executive has held the role of Sporting Director for almost decade. He took the position in 2014, having initially worked in the youth academy and then as a director under Marco Branca.

Over that time, Ausilio has certainly had some ups and downs.

But with each passing year, the director’s fingerprints have been more and more on the team.

It is a squad that Ausilio has specifically shaped in his own image.

And since 21018, he has worked alongside Beppe Marotta.

The pair have been the visionaries behind the Inter team that has won the Serie A title, several domestic cup honours, and reached the Champions League final.

Inter Sporting Director Piero Ausilio On What’s Needed In His Role

Ausilio and Marotta have identified coaches like Antonio Conte and Simone Inzaghi to build around.

They have pursued a mixture of young players and veterans. There has been an increasing focus on locating young Italian talent over the last few years.

And then there has been the issue of Inter’s financial situation.

Since the start of the pandemic in particular, Nerazzurri owners Suning have struggled with debt and liquidity issues.

This has necessitated that Ausilio and Marotta work within tight financial constraints.

But that has not stopped Inter from winning trophies under their stewardship. On the contrary.

Ausilio gave his thoughts on what he has needed to work the way that he has.

“There are three elements that are necessary to be the basis for our work,” he said.

“First of all there’s passion. Then you need to have a spirit of sacrifice.”

“And lastly, obviously you need to have the right skills,” Ausilio added.
