Inter Milan striker Marcus Thuram could get a rest in tomorrow evening’s Champions League group stage match against Red Bull Salzburg.
This according to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews. The broadcaster also notes that Stefan de Vrij and Davide Frattesi could start the match.
Inter coach Simone Inzaghi has just under 24 hours to make his lineup decisions for tomorrow evening’s match.
The feeling is that that the coach will make at least a handful of changes to the team that beat Torino over the weekend in Serie A.
That match was just two days ago. With so little time to rest in between the coach will naturally be wary of burning out key starters.
However, at the same time, Inzaghi will not want to risk weakening his time tomorrow.
Three points against Austrian champions Salzburg would certainly be vital for the Nerazzurri as they aim to qualify for the knockout rounds. Particularly considering that Inter had dropped points away to Real Sociedad in their opener.
Inter Striker Marcus Thuram Could Get A Rest In Champions League
According to Sky, one of the regular starters who could get a rest tomorrow is Thuram.
The Frenchman has been virtually omnipresent in Inter’s starting eleven since joining on a free transfer during the summer.
The only match that Thuram has not started this season for Inter came in the Champions League. Marko Arnautovic started against La Real in the 26-year-old’s place.
However, Sky reports, Inter coach Inzaghi is seriously considering dropping Thuram to the bench tomorrow.
The coach is naturally wary of overusing such a key player.
And given that Arnautovic is still out with a thigh injury, the player to take Thuram’s place would be Alexis Sanchez.
Meanwhile, Sky reports that Stefan de Vrij could start tomorrow.
The Dutchman had also started against Torino on Saturday. It is between he and Francesco Acerbi to start in the middle of the back three – Acerbi had started on the left of the defense against the Granata, but Alessandro Bastoni will be back in the lineup tomorrow.
And according to Sky, if Acerbi is on the bench, it will mainly be to preserve him in view of Sunday’s match against Roma.
And lastly, the broadcaster reports, Davide Frattesi could start in place of Nicolo Barella in midfield.
