Inter Milan are still dreaming of signing Atalanta defender Giorgio Scalvini, but face the formidable competition of Man United.

This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews.

There are several reasons why Scalvini is a natural target for Inter.

First and foremost, of course, is the 19-year-old’s quality on the pitch.

Scalvini has marked himself out as one of the outstanding young defenders not just in Serie A, but in all of Europe with his performances for La Dea over the past couple seasons.

Moreover, Scalvini would have the right profile to fit in at Inter.

The young Italian international already plays in a back three at Atalanta.

There, Scalvini’s positional versatility has been a key aspect of him becoming such a fixture in the starting eleven.

Moreover, the 19-year-old is very accomplished on the ball and in terms of his passing in buildup.

Therefore, Scalvini is a major target for Inter.

Inter Dreaming Of Giorgio Scalvini – But Face Man United Competition

The fact that Scalvini is Italian is another point in his favour.

The likes of Nicolo Barella, Federico Dimarco, and Alessandro Bastoni already form a strong core of Italian players at the Nerazzurri.

And Inter would like to add Scalvini to that list.

The 19-year-old could also be a successor to older players like Matteo Darmian and Francesco Acerbi.

And the appeal of staying in Serie A and in the Bergamo region could help Inter.

But Scalvini’s price tag will always be an issue.

Atalanta want at least €40 million for the teenager.

Moreover, according to Tuttosport, Manchester United have joined the growing list of clubs who want to sign Scalvini.

The likes of Atletico Madrid, Newcastle United, Manchester City, Liverpool, Bayern Munich, and Juventus all also reportedly want Scalvini.

And the fact that the Red Devils showed no hesitation to stump up a huge fee to sign Rasmus Hojlund in the summer is not a good sign for Inter.

There could end up being a real bidding war for Scalvini. And in that case, the Nerazzurri would surely struggle to get their man.
