Inter Milan have made young Atalanta defender Giorgio Scalvini their top target to reinforce at the back.

This according to Sky Sport Italia transfer market expert Gianluca Di Marzio, who reports on his homepage that the 19-year-old is at the top of the Nerazzurri’s shortlist, which also includes Arsenal’s Takehiro Tomiyasu and Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah.

Inter still have a defensive signing to make before the summer transfer window slams shut.

The Nerazzurri have already made plenty of signings during the window. However, they still haven’t accomplished one of their major priorities from before the summer even began – replacing Milan Skriniar.

And in the final couple weeks of the window, Inter have a couple targets in mind.

According to Di Marzio, Inter’s ideal option would be to go after a player they’ve long coveted in the form of teenage Atalanta defender Giorgio Scalvini.

Inter Milan Could Decide To Go After Atalanta Defender Giorgio Scalvini

Scalvini is certainly a player who has enjoyed a breakout couple of season.

The 19-year-old is one of the most highly-regarded young defenders in Serie A, if not all of Europe.

Apart from Inter, the likes of Atletico Madrid, Newcastle United, Manchester City, Liverpool, Bayern Munich, and Juventus all want Scalvini.

Moreover, Di Marzio reports, La Dea are not exactly keen to lose their young talent.

Therefore, Scalvini will likely command a hefty fee if he were to leave this summer. And Atalanta are ready to hold out for it for a player they are still hoping to keep.

However, the Nerazzurri do have cash to spend on a defender.

The fact that Inter will not be signing Lazar Samardzic, and have signed Marko Arnautovic as a striker, a low-cost deal, means that they will have money to invest in a replacement for Skriniar.

According to Di Marzio, Scalvini would be the Nerazzurri’s top target.

Meanwhile, he reports, Tomiyasu and Chalobah are alternatives to Scalvini.
