Inter Milan want to extend the contract of midfielder Nicolo Barella on a long-term deal sometime in 2024.

This according to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews.

At the moment, Barella is under contract with Inter until the end of June 2026.

The ex-Cagliari midfielder signed his most recent extension with the Nerazzurri in 2021.

So on paper, extending Barella’s contract is not exactly a major priority for Inter.

He is not a player whose deal is just less than twelve months away, like Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

But Inter do not want to wait. The reason is that the Nerazzurri want to secure Barella’s long-term future.

The 26-year-old Italian international is very much a player who Inter want to build around for some time into the future.

Barella is already a player at the heart of Inter’s team.

The Azzurri star has appeared in every one of Inter’s thirteen matches so far this season.

This has seen Barella take his total number of Nerazzurri appearances to two hundred.

Inter Want To Tie Nicolo Barella Down On New Deal In 2026

Barella’s box-to-box style has been a key feature for Inter under both Simone Inzaghi and Antonio Conte.

The 26-year-old has already won the Serie A title with Inter, and the Coppa Italia and Supercoppa Italiana on two occasions each.

Barella has also helped Inter reach the final of both the Europa League and the Champions League.

And the Italian international has been a key part of all of those accomplishments.

It is little surprise, therefore, that Barella has attracted transfer interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs.

Particularly from the Premier League, the interest is certainly there.

All of Liverpool, Manchester United, Arsenal, and Manchester City are reportedly admirers of the former Cagliari midfielder.

But Inter want to extend the 26-year-old’s contract soon.

They are hoping that Barella will put pen to paper on a new deal in 2024. According to Sky, that is one of the club’s main priorities for next year.
