Inter Milan Assistant Sporting Director Dario Baccin was at the Copa Libertadores final scouting players from Fluminense and Boca Juniors.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who report that Baccin is on a scouting mission in South America at the moment.

Whilst the transfer window may be closed, Inter’s scouting activity never stops.

Naturally, the Nerazzurri tend to concentrate a lot of their activity around European football.

But there is also a keen eye on teams and players in South America. Particularly younger players.

Inter have a track record of signing younger players from South America.

Of course, the record for these kinds of transfers is mixed. But Inter captain Lautaro Martinez is a shining example of the possible upside of moving for talented young players from South American teams.

Inter Assistant Sporting Director Dario Baccin Watches Copa Libertadores Final Between Fluminense & Boca Juniors

The man who heads up Inter’s scouting operation in South America is Assistant Sporting Director Baccin.

Working alongside Sporting Director Piero Ausilio and CEO Beppe Marotta, the Assistant Sporting Director is generally the man responsible for directly scouting players from the continent.

And according to the Corriere, Baccin is currently on a trip for exactly that purpose.

Therefore, the Inter executive will watch a number of players and matches in Argentina and Uruguay.

And Baccin was at South American football’s biggest match on Saturday.

On Saturday night, Brazilian team Fluminense beat Argentine giants Boca Juniors. They won the Copa Liberatadores, South American football’s most important prize.

Among the Fluminense lineup was veteran former Inter and Juventus midfielder Felipe Melo. The 40-year-old lined up at centre-back.

And Inter Assistant Sporting Director Baccin took in the action.

It is as yet unclear which specific targets the Nerazzurri executive is observing in South America.
