Inter Milan midfielder Kristjan Asllani only had words of praise for his captain Lautaro Martinez, revealing how the latter always stood by his side.

The young Albanian started on the bench in yesterday’s Champions League clash against RB Salzburg.

Nevertheless, he replaced Hakan Calhanoglu in the final half-hour, enjoying a fine cameo.

But eventually, it was fellow substitute Lautaro Martinez who came off the bench to snatch the win from the spot. This allowed the club to book its place in the Champions League round of 16.

Asllani hailed his “incredible” captain who always supported him through difficult times,

“It’s a very important victory because we closed the qualification chapter. We didn’t want to put Salzburg back into the game,” said the midfielder in his post-match interview with Mediaset via FcInterNews.

“I don’t know what to say about Lautaro. He’s incredible on and off the pitch, a golden boy.

“He helped me even in difficult moments. I thank him for that. I’m happy that the club has a captain like him.”

The 21-year-old also admits that Salzburg caused problems for the Nerazzurri. But the Italians did well to emerge victorious.

“Salzburg are a strong team. They put us in difficulty. It’s normal, they were also playing at home.

“But in the second half, they let their guard down and we did well to gain the three points.

“We are a strong group. It is easier for us young people to work and develop in such a group.”

“We work hard to go all the way in all competitions. Then we’ll see. Normally, we all want to win, we’ll get there together with the fans. The objectives are clear.”
