AC Milan are currently leading Inter Milan in the race to sign teenage Schalke and Germany midfielder Assan Ouedraogo.

This according to Italian broadcaster SportItalia, via FCInterNews. The broadcaster report that the 17-year-old’s future could be clear in the next month or so, and that he has a release clause of €12 million.

Young midfielder Ouedraogo has enjoyed a real breakout campaign with Schalke over the past few weeks.

Having come through the Koenigsblauen’s youth academy system, he has become a regular in the first team this season.

Ouedraogo has so far made a total of nine appearances. He has also scored his first senior goal for Schalke.

And the German youth team international has not shown any signs of a tough adaptation process.

On the contrary, Ouedraogo has looked very comfortable in senior football.

Both in terms of his physicality and his composure and tactical awareness, the teenager has been at home enough to be one of Schalke’s outstanding performers in the German second division so far.

AC Milan Lead Inter In The Race To Sign Assan Ouedraogo

Naturally, Ouedraogo’s performances for Schalke have attracted some transfer interest.

There are big clubs around Europe who have been monitoring the 17-year-old.

But according to SportItalia, Serie A looks to be the most likely destination for the young Schalke midfielder.

As the broadcaster notes, both of Inter and Milan have a real interest in Ouedraogo’s signature.

However, SportItalia reports, the Rossoneri are ahead of their city rivals.

Milan, they suggest, have gained significant ground in recent contacts with Ouedraogo’s representatives.

Therefore, SportItalia report, the Rossoneri are hoping that they can seal a deal soon.

But Inter are not altogether out of the race. The Nerazzurri are still targeting Ouedraogo and working to try and overtake their city rivals.

In any event, SportItalia anticipate, the question of Ouedraogo’s future could be resolved by the end of the month.
