Inter Milan vice president Javier Zanetti only had words of praise for his compatriot Lautaro Martinez, describing him as a complete player.

The 50-year-old remains one of the most beloved icons among Nerazzurri supporters.

He served the club valiantly during his playing days between 1995 and 2014.

Zanetti, who proudly donned the captain’s armband for many years, gave his blessing to his fellow Argentine who inherited the captaincy this summer.

Martinez became the new club captain following the departure of Samir Handanovic and other senior members of the squad.

Since then, the 26-year-old has been on brilliant form for his club. He has been firing on all cylinders this season. He currently leads the Serie A scoring charts with 12 goals from as many rounds.

For his part, Zanetti admits that no player will be able to fill the void when Lionel Messi leaves the Argentine national team.

Nevertheless, the Nerazzurri icon showers Martinez with major praise, considering him the right successor.

“Matching Messi will be very difficult for everyone, but for the future, I am thinking of Lautaro Martinez,” said Zanetti in an interview with Planetwin365 via FcInterNews.

“Season after season, he has had significant growth and he’s now confirming himself as a true leader.

“He works for the team and scores a lot of goals. He has become a complete player, so much so that he wears the captain’s armband at Inter.

“I hope he continues on this path and that this can bring him closer to aspire to such an important prize.”
