The agents of Napoli midfielder Piotr Zielinski have informed Inter Milan that the Pole is not inclined to extend his contract with the Partenopei.

This according to Italian news outlet FCInter1908. The outlet report that the Nerazzurri are keeping close tabs on Zielinski’s situation, but would also prefer to sign the younger Andrea Colpani.

29-year-old Napoli midfielder Zielinski has emerged as a serious target for Inter.

The main reason for this is the former Udinese and Empoli man’s contract situation.

Zielinski’s current contract with Napoli runs out at the end of next June.

Therefore, the Polish international could be available on a free transfer next summer. But only if he decides not to extend his contract with Napoli.

By all accounts the Italian champions want to extend Zielinski’s deal.

However, it has not looked certain whether or not the midfielder would want to put pen to paper on a new contract.

On the one hand, Zielinski has been at Napoli for the better part of a decade. The Pole joined the Campanian team in the summer of 2016.

Therefore, there has been a sense that Zielinski could prioritize loyalty to the club.

But on the other, the 29-year-old could seek a different opportunity elsewhere on a free transfer.

Agents Of Napoli Midfielder Piotr Zielinski Tell Inter He Won’t Extend Contract

And according to FCIN1908, Zielinski’s agents have given Inter a clear message in recent talks.

The Pole’s representatives have told Inter that he is leaning towards leaving Napoli on a free transfer next summer.

That doesn’t mean that the midfielder would come cheap, exactly.

FCIN1908 report that it would still take around €5-6 million in agent commissions to sign Zielinski.

Then, the midfielder would certainly expect a substantial contract.

Moreover, there will be plenty of competition for Zielinski’s signature. Inter’s Derby d’Italia rivals Juventus reportedly also consider the 29-year-old a target.

But the opportunity to bring in the experienced player on a free transfer is there.

Meanwhile, FCIN1908 report that Inter see Monza’s Andrea Colpani as a higher-priority midfield target that Zielinski.

The fact that the 24-year-old is younger and has room to grow is the main factor there.

But a lot will depend on the Brianzoli’s asking price for Colpani.
