Former Arsenal and Barcelona forward Alexis Sanchez has been named as Inter Milan’s worst performer against Real Sociedad.

Today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, give the Chilean a score of just 5/10 in the player ratings for the match.

Sanchez got the chance to start yesterday evening.

The 34-year-old got the nod ahead of Lautaro Martinez, with the captain having dropped to the bench for a relatively rare bench.

So far in Inter’s Champions League, Sanchez has proven that there doesn’t have to be a drop-off when the first-choice strikers don’t start.

The veteran forward had scored against both Red Bull Salzburg and Benfica. He had also impressed with his substitute appearance against Real Sociedad in the group stage opener.

But yesterday evening, Sanchez did not look up to par in the view of the Gazzetta.

Alexis Sanchez Worst Inter Performer Vs Real Sociedad

Sanchez formed Inter’s attack alongside Marcus Thuram yesterday.

But whilst the Frenchman had looked to pose a real threat to the La Real backline with his direct running and dribbling, Sanchez struggled to impact the match.

There were a few technically impressive moments from the Chilean.

But by and large, Sanchez tried to drop deep and get on the ball. Then, when he did so, he struggled for ideas to do anything with it.

The Chilean’s passing radar was a bit off. This was very much in contrast to how effective Sanchez had been off the bench playing in a similar style in the away match against the same team.

What Sanchez really lacked, the Gazzetta argues, is a threat in behind.

A bit of a lack of pace from the veteran meant that La Real’s defense handled him relatively easily.

For the Gazzetta, Sanchez’s performance was part of the reason Inter’s counterattack looked blunt.
