Inter Milan goalkeeper Yann Sommer has been named as the sixth best goalkeeper in the world in 2023.

CIES Football Observatory, via FCInterNews, laud the Swiss international for his performances across the calendar year.

Sommer has certainly enjoyed a memorable twelve months.

The Swiss joined Bayern Munich during the January transfer window. He arrived as a temporary replacement for Bayern captain Manuel Neuer, who was out with an injury.

Sommer ended an eight-and-a-half-year association with Borussia Monchengladbach to join the Bavarians.

And the veteran keeper rounded off nearly a decade in the Bundesliga by lifting the German top flight title.

But rather than sticking around with the German champions, Sommer decided to try a new adventure.

Inter Keeper Yann Sommer Named As Sixth Best Goalkeeper Of 2023

Sommer made the switch to Inter during the summer transfer window.

It was the player’s decision – he pushed for the move, wanting to try his hand in Serie A after capping off his long period in the Bundesliga with a title.

Sommer joined the Nerazzurri as the replacement for Andre Onana.

And so far this season, the 35-year-old has proven to be the perfect replacement for Onana.

Sommer has already kept a remarkable twelve clean sheets in Serie A out of the seventeen matches he’s played for Inter.

The Swiss has certainly gotten help from the defense in front of him. But there have also been plenty of outstanding saves.

After more than a decade of being a highly-rated keeper not playing for one of Europe’s elite clubs, Sommer has planted his flag competing for the biggest trophies in his mid-thirties.

CIES names Manchester City’s Ederson as the top keeper in the world in 2023.

Then there are Barcelona’s Marc-Andre Ter Stegen and Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez.

La Liga pair Jan Oblak (Atletico Madrid) and Alex Remiro (Real Sociedad) follow. And in sixth is Inter and former Bayern keeper Sommer.
