Inter Milan midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu left training early today due to a slight fever.

This according to Italian news outlet FCInter1908, who report that the Turkish international’s availability shouldn’t be a risk for Saturday’s Serie A clash with Hellas Verona.

This season, there are few players who Inter want to be without less than Calhanoglu.

The 29-year-old is one of the Nerazzurri’s most irreplaceable starters.

Having transitioned to a role at the base of the midfield trio last season, Calhanoglu has become the real creative engine of the team, this season.

Whilst Kristjan Asllani is a relatively adept deputy for Calhahoglu, he cannot quite provide the same fluidity in possession or range of passing that the Turk can.

Former AC Milan and Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Calhanoglu understands fully the rhythm at which Inter play.

The Nerazzurri’s direct and vertical attack is in fact built around Calhanoglu’s passing style.

Hakan Calhanoglu Returns Home From Training Early Due To Slight Fever

Given the importance of Calhanoglu to Inter, any potential absence would certainly be a worry.

And the 29-year-old did have to leave training early today.

The reason for this was that the midfielder had felt some slight fever.

That had also been the case for another Inter player last week. Midfielder Davide Frattesi has also missed some training due to a fever shortly after Christmas.

But Frattesi did not miss any matches.

The Italian international was in the squad to face Genoa on Friday. He came off the bench in that match.

And similarly, FCIN1908 report, Calhanoglu will almost certainly be in the squad on Saturday.

Whether this means he will be ready to start or not, it would perhaps be premature to say.

But in all likelihood, a swift return to training should be on the cards for Calhanoglu.

Then the midfielder can get ready for Saturday’s match.
