Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez should sign a new contract with the club before the end of the month.

The Argentine has now established himself as the club’s main talisman. He also inherited the captaincy last summer following the departures of Samir Handanovic and other senior members of the squad.

Since then, he has taken his game up a notch. He currently leads the Serie A scoring charts with 15 goals from 16 appearances.

The 2022 World Cup winner has a deal with the club lasting till 2026. Yet, the two parties are looking to push back the deadline.

The Argentina international will sign a new contract valid until 2028.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport via FcInterNews, the Nerazzurri must only iron out the last remaining details before finalizing Lautaro’s renewal.

The report believes that the club officials will hold one or two meetings with the player’s agent Alejandro Camano before concluding the operation.

Thus, the 26-year-old should put pen to paper before the end of the month. The source doesn’t rule out an official announcement in the middle of January.
