Monza goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio will miss this weekend’s clash against Inter Milan due to an injury.

According to FcInter1908, the knock that the 26-year-old sustained against Frosinone will rule him out of Saturday’s Lombardian Derby.

This will be a major blow for Monza coach Raffaele Palladino given the importance of the Italian custodian to the cause.

Di Gregorio rose through the ranks of Inter from a tender age. Following a series of loan stints, he completed a switch to Monza in 2020.

He initially signed for the Biancorossi on a temporary basis, but the two clubs made the move permanent in 2022.

Since Monza’s promotion to Serie A, the custodian has established himself as one of the most reliable shot-stoppers in the league.

In a recent interview, Di Gregorio’s agent admitted that his client remains emotionally attached to the Nerazzurri.

In the absence of his first-choice goalkeeper, Alessandro Sorrentino will deputize in goal. He already replaced Di Gregorio last weekend in the middle of the match.

Monza’s probable starting line-up will also feature three former Inter players.

Danilo D’Ambrosio and Luca Caldirola will start in the back three. The former joined the Brianza-based club in the summer following the expiry of his contract with the Nerazzurri.

The same goes for Roberto Gagliardini who should return to his original role as a central midfielder. The Italian covered in defense in previous weeks.

However, Inter-owned teenager Valentin Carboni could be dropped to the bench despite his exploits from last weekend, according to the source.

The report expects Dany Mota and Andrea Colapi to play behind Lorenzo Colombo who will lead the line.
