Former Nerazzurri, Napoli, and Lazio defender Francesco Colonnese believe Fiorentina must change their tactical system against Inter Milan.

Colonnese told Italian broadcaster Radio Bruno, via FCInterNews, that he feels La Viola should switch to a back three system to counteract the Nerazzurri’s own formation.

This evening’s Serie A match at the Stadio Artemio Franchi pits two of the outstanding Italian coaches against one another.

Both Inter’s Simone Inzaghi and Fiorentina’s Vincenzo Italiano joined their respective clubs in the summer of 2021.

Both Inter and Fiorentina reached European finals last season.

And the pair met in the Coppa Italia final, which the Nerazzurri won 2-1. But that only came after a difficult, very even match.

The Nerazzurri won their last match against Fiorentina by a blowout 4-0 scoreline.

But Inter won’t be underestimating Italiano’s team by any means – particularly away in Tuscany.

Matches between the pair have tended to be fairly even contests since Inzaghi and Italiano took over.

Fiorentina won last season’s Serie A match at the San Siro.

And it could come down to tactics and strategy as much as individual quality at the Franchi. So both Inzaghi and Italiano will be thinking about how to outwit his opposite number.

Collonnese Suggest Change Of System For Fiorentina Vs Inter

Former Inter defender Collonese argued that “On Sunday Fiorentina have to try to play a well-ordered match.”

“They can’t play too high up the pitch against Inter,” he continued.

“Because then they will risk paying for it.”

“Against the Nerazzurri you have to try to play a perfect match,” Collonese argued.

“Especially in defence, where in my opinion they should have an extra man.”

“With the back four then there’s more of a risk of playing one-on-one against Lautaro or Thuram,” Colonnese noted.

The former defender suggested that “I think that teams should always play a back three against them.”
