Inter Milan midfielder Kristjan Asllani feels that a win against Fiorentina was important to go into next weekend’s showdown with Juventus on the back of a victory.

The 21-year-old spoke to Italian broadcaster RAI Sport, via FCInterNews, after yesterday’s Serie A win.

On the pitch yesterday, Inter were facing Fiorentina.

But at the same time, the match was also a kind of indirect clash with Juventus.

The Nerazzurri and the Bianconeri are currently duelling at the top of the Serie A table. For months now, the two teams have never been separated by more than a handful of points.

And with Juventus having dropped points against Empoli on Saturday, yesterday’s match was a big opportunity for Inter.

The Nerazzurri were able to go back to the top of the table. With a game in hand, no less.

And next Sunday will see Inter host Juventus in the second league Derby d’Italia of the season.

Naturally, that will be a match in which any result would be on the table.

But momentum is always important in football.

And this weekend’s results mean that Inter go into the match with the wind in their sails. And Juventus do so needing to recover from a surprise setback.

Asllani: Important To Beat Fiorentina Heading Into Juventus Match

“It was important to win to go back to the top of the table ahead of Juve,” Asllani said.

“But we always think one match at a time,” he continued.

The Albanian international continued that “We won. And we brought we get the three points.”

“Now we’ll think about the head-to-head match against Juventus. We want to keep bringing home more points.”

And Asllani also gave his thoughts on Inter’s tactics facing Fiorentina yesterday.

“Against Fiorentina we tried to play through the strikers and the box-to-box midfielders,” the former Empoli player explained.

“So I tried to give them as much service as possible.”

“This year we’ve gotten better at getting past markers and playing the ball into the space in behind,” Asllanmi added.

“They were man-marked, so we had to give them support,” he said of Inter’s forward players.
