Striker Mauro Icardi is extremely keen to make a surprise return to Inter Milan during the next summer transfer window.

This according to Italian news outlet Calciomercato.com, who report that the 30-year-old would be willing to take a pay cut and accept the role of backup striker in order to wear the Nerazzurri shirt again.

Icardi has already spent six seasons playing for Inter in the past.

The Argentine joined the Nerazzurri from Sampdoria in 2013. He made a total of 219 appearances for the club, scoring 124 goals in all competitions in the process.

In each of his last five seasons at Inter, Icardi finished as the club’s top scorer.

And for several seasons, the Argentine also wore the captain’s armband.

However, Icardi was stripped of the captaincy during his final season at Inter, amid a tumultuous relationship with the club’s fanbase.

There was also the controversial of Icardi’s wife and agent Wanda Nara. This certainly soured the relationship between the striker and club.

Therefore, in the summer of 2019, Icardi left Inter to join Paris Saint-Germain.

The Nerazzurri moved on from the Argentine who had at one point been their talisman, building the project around other strikers like Lautaro Martinez, Romelu Lukaku, Edin Dzeko, and Marcus Thuram.

Mauro Icardi Very Keen On A Shock Return To Inter

After three up-and-down seasons in the French capital, Icardi left PSG in the summer of 2022.

The Argentine initially joined Galatasaray on loan. Then, last summer, the Turkish giants signed the 30-year-old on a permanent basis.

Icardi has found blazing form in front of goal in Istanbul, particular this season.

However, according to CM, the 30-year-old would like a departure.

The outlet reports that Icardi’s preferred move would be back to Italy, where he would be happy with his family.

And according to CM, the Argentine has one club in particular that he would like to join.

Icardi still feels a sense of connection to Inter, having spent several years with the club and even worn the armband. Therefore, he would prefer joining the Nerazzurri to other clubs.

CM reports that Icardi had been offered to several clubs during the January transfer window. However, there were no takers.

Nevertheless, the outlet claims, Icardi remains set on a move away from Galatasaray next summer. And that Inter would certainly be his ideal destination.

The 30-year-old would be willing to reduce his wages compared to what he earns at Galatasaray in order to make the move happen.

Moreover, CM anticipates, Icardi would not have any demands for playing time.

The Argentine would be willing to take the place of Alexis Sanchez as the “fourth” forward in the Nerazzurri’s squad.

To date, Inter have never really opened up to the idea of bringing Icardi back, however.

The Nerazzurri remain wary considering the tenor of the striker’s exit in 2019, his final season at the club, and particularly some of the antics of Nara.
